The German army has selected the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann Mungo light infantry vehicle for their special operations (commando) and light infantry operations. The 4x4 (4 wheel drive) Mungo weighs 5.3 tons and has a 3.5 ton capacity. The German army version is equipped with 1.5 tons of armor, including protection from anti-personnel mines, shell fragments and rifle bullets. The vehicle can be carried by a CH-53 helicopter. The Mungo comes with a large number of features (all-wheel drive, differential locks, electronic traction control, anti-lock brake system, run-flat tires and creep speed) that make it attractive to military users. Even with the extra armor, the Mungo can carry ten troops including the driver), and a total load of two tons. The initial order is for 388 vehicles, and may be increased to 900.
