The Special Forces has increased its recruiting efforts, sending members to visit army units world wide. The Special Forces gets most of its recruits from those already in the army. Candidates have to already be at least E-4 (on the 1-9 enlisted rank structure) and in good physical shape. The Special Forces recruiters briefs groups of troops interested, making sure they know what they are getting into. Going into the Special Forces means you are committed to a long period of training, and probably making a career of the army. The volunteers that pass all the mental and physical tests, go to Ft Bragg and take the grueling three SFAS (Special Forces Assessment Test). Those that pass then go on to the 46 day SFQC (Special Forces Qualification Course), which only about half pass. After that, there is 1-2 years of training in a Special Forces specialty, and then several years of on-the-job training before you are consider fully prepared for any missions the Special Forces might have to undertake. In light of this, the Special Forces are not recruiting for any upcoming campaign in Iraq, but for operations taking place 4-5 years from now.
