Logistics: Sustaining Stryker

Archives

October 31, 2005: The Stryker wheeled armored vehicle, like all armored combat vehicles, is expensive to operate. When you include the cost of maintenance, spare parts, but not fuel, it costs about $7.51 for each kilometer traveled. In Iraq, Strykers average 12,000-16,000 kilometers on road for each year long tour. Strykers spend more time on the road than M-2 Bradleys, and cost less than half as much, per kilometer, to operate. So far, about 75 percent of the 2,559 Strykers ordered, have been delivered. Each Stryker brigade has 310 Strykers. There are three such brigades in service, with three more being organized and trained.
