The Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) and the Sudanese government finally signed their long awaited peace deal. This ends the decades old rebellion in southern Sudan, at least on paper. 

The Darfur rebels and the government agreed to allow international observers to move, unmolested, into Darfur. The government is taking a lot of diplomatic heat for the ethnic cleansing in Darfur and is under a lot of pressure to do something, or allow aid groups to do something.
