October 7, 2005: American intelligence experts, including Special Forces operators, believe that the Thais have relied too much on force in trying to crush the Moslem insurgency, which has pushed some less ardent Moslems into the arms of the rebels.

October 6, 2005: Two bombs went off in the south, wounding nine people, while the prime minister visited the area.

October 5, 2005: Five soldiers were killed in the south as they set up a check point to provide security for the visit of the prime minister.

October 2, 2005: Emergency rule in the south will be extended another three months. The military control of the Moslem majority Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces, was first imposed last July and expires on October 20.

September 30, 2005: In the south, two Chinese civilians, and a policeman were killed by Islamic terrorists. The Chinese were traveling peddlers, a common sight in Thailand, but resented in the south by Islamic terrorists because the Chinese are not Moslem.

September 23, 2005: Islamic violence in the south killed seven more, including two policemen.
